Is it a better workout to swim harder for a shorter period of time (like 35-40 min) or to swim at a steady pace for a longer period of time (like 45-50 min)?

Fri, July 13, 2007 - 7:40 AMIt is better to do actual work outs and rotate what you are doing. There is another post regarding this and distance workouts.
I just went to Barnes and Noble and picked up a swimming book(can't remember off the top of my head), it has workouts in it.
I like to start off with warming up for 20-30 minutes, then doing my workout. -

Re: Workout question
Thu, July 19, 2007 - 12:51 PMDepends on what you want to do. Interval training is considered more effective for speed. Typically it takes longer to do interval training so interval trainers tend to do less yardage.
I race, even though I'm an old dude, so I do almost all interval training. My girlfriend swims for a longer time (not a longer distance) and is considerably slower but maybe she enjoys her swims more or there is some benefit.
