Wetsuit

topic posted Sun, May 13, 2007 - 12:27 PM by  melissa
Anyone here swim with one much? I have a new one for this triathlon season. I've never swam in one before. It's full length but I opted for sleeveless. Any tips/tricks for swimming in it to get the most out of the added buoyancy and any tips on how to get out of it as fast as possible (I know to use the body glide before getting into it). Thanks!!

here's one: remember to put your timing chip on before you put your wetsuit on - keep it underneath!

your suit should fit really, really snug. it will loosen significantly in water. it will be COLD when you first get in the water, then the layer of water that comes in gets warmed by you - and stays warm.

sign up for races that promise wetsuit strippers. it's the fastest way I know to get out of a suit.

Spray PAM or the equivalent all over your body after putting on body glide. This amazingly increases the ease of removing the wetsuit. When you finish the swim, plan to unzip and pull down to your waist - try to get your arms out on the run to the transition area.

The chip tip is a really good one.

Sleveless will help prevent arm binding, which I think is the biggest drawback of ones with sleeves and takes a little more wetsuit prep to get the arms as freed up as possible before the race.
