Re: races in sight?
Sat, February 2, 2008 - 6:57 PMNo races in sight. I am swimming in an outdoor pool at the local YMCA. Here's my typical workout:
1 x 800 kicking with board = 1x200 free, 1x200 back (without board), 1x200 free with board in bulldozer position, 1x200 free head-high
2 x 800 = 1x200 sidestroke, 1x200 free, 1x200 back, 1x200 IM
1x100 breast warm-down
Total = 2500 yards -

Re: races in sight?
Mon, February 4, 2008 - 11:59 AMYes, it is possible here in California during the winter. The pools are kept covered at night. The water is heated, and 78F degrees is the most comfortable.

Re: races in sight?
Thu, February 14, 2008 - 9:12 AMSome friends are trying to con me into doing Fat Salmon in Lake Washington, Seattle, July 19. Have to have a wetsuit though. I'd like to do Chesapeake Bay this June but it's nearly impossible to get into. ... -

Re: races in sight?
Fri, February 15, 2008 - 9:16 AMYea, I'm not real excited about any races that you have to wear wetsuits. It's a whole different world.
I don't know the Ches Bay race. . . not that I'm really well versed in alny of the races.
I'm going to finally commit to swimming 4.5 miles down the TN river in Chattanooga in their 3rd annual Chattanooga River Rats River Race. Yes, you heard me , DOWN river. Sounds like fun, though! -

Re: races in sight?
Fri, February 15, 2008 - 6:21 PMThat should be fun, the Chattanooga thing; a friend of mine did a similar thing years ago on the Snake River, 4.5 miles downstream, and had a great time. Do you need a wetsuit for Chattanooga? That water must be chilly. -

Re: races in sight?
Sat, February 16, 2008 - 9:11 AMThe river is expected to be about 75 degrees, so no wetsuit.
At least no wetsuit for me. -
