I have developed achilles tendinitis. Any suggestions on how I can still get my swimming in without reinjuring my ankle? Last night I went swimming and used the wedge between my legs and swam freestyle without using my legs. But there has to be other options as well. Any ideas?

Re: Swimming with injuries
Wed, March 5, 2008 - 4:43 PMI am also a runner who trains for half marathons and an avid swimmer. I developed achilles tendinitis from running at the end of January 2007. I actually wore a boot for two weeks and after wearing the boot for a week, I was able to go into the pool and swim a lap workout for an hour. I doubt this will help, but staying out of the pool for a week actually helped it after I developed it. Good luck with that though.

Re: Swimming with injuries
Sun, April 20, 2008 - 9:47 PMHi Lisa,
I am a graduate student in physiology and an avid masters swimmer. I’ve delt with various injuries in my life, including a serious bike/car accident last year and I have found a method that is just awesome in terms of optimal treatment and quick return to sports. It’s called the Egoscue Method, you can check out their main website at www.egoscue.com. I’ve also created a group to talk about the method at
tribes.tribe.net/egoscue
If you are interested in learning how to optimally treat your injuries, I welcome you to join! I hope to get Egoscue Method therapists and clients on there as well to talk about specific injuries.
Swim on!!!
As for the achilles, I highly recommend Pain Free by Pete Egoscue, pg. 43-60. It’s about $10 on Amazon, and worth the rush order :)
My best,
Anna
